In May of 1765, Parliament passed the Stamp Act, "a bill that would impose a tax on the American colonies through tax stamps placed on all legal documents, newspapers, commercial documents, and even playing cards. Without the stamps, documents would be invalid and paper products illegal." To combat the act, the Pennsylvania Journal published a warning against the Stamp Act entitled “An Emblem of the Effects of the STAMP."
250 years later, we once again find ourselves being taxed for a right that comes from God and once again, the famous cartoon rings true today.
